THESIS
I have written various statements on games, video games, or other things. I present them and make them available, here.
ALLOWING PLAYER AGENCY IN WESTERN ROLEPLAYING GAMES
In 2019, as part of my curriculum in design of Interactive Digital Experiences, I had to write a professionnal thesis on a subject of my choosing, related to what I was doing during my internship. Player agency is a central component of most western RPG, so I decided to investigate what were the common ways to foster an agency-oriented mindset in the player mind in such games. I think the resulting thesis contains some valuable advices and insight into ways to make agency better in video games and I definitely learned a lot by doing this.
A FEW PROBLEMS OF ALGORITHM AND COMPLEXITY IN GRAPH THEORY
Before I became a professional game designer, I was a mathematician (some would say I still am). I did a PhD on graph theory, which makes me a doctor, like in the shows on tv. I found a few interesting results. I also built some reduction of NP-complete problems into tropical homomorphism ones, which nobody will ever really care about except me. It is sad, because they are absolutely beautifully crafted, and I am very proud of them.
MANIFESTO WIP
In 2018, there was a manifesto jam organized on itch.io. I did not participate, but I read a lot of entries. Most of them were thought provoking. I decided then to think more about what is important for me in games, and to try to incorporate those thought as concretely as possible in my game design. Since then I have start writting a manifesto of my own.
It does not have a title. It is not finished. I am not sure I fully agree with everything I wrote in it. It is a bit contradictory to publish a manifesto as a work in progress, because manifesto are supposed to be confident and brave and defiant. Anyway, here it is.
